Dawson Dental provides independent dental second opinions for patients who have received a large, unexpected, or confusing treatment plan. Dr. Brandon Dawson reviews each concern carefully, explains what he sees, and helps you understand which treatment may be urgent, which may be monitored, and which alternatives may be reasonable.
When a Dental Second Opinion Can Help
A second opinion can be especially useful when several teeth have been recommended for treatment, you were told you need multiple crowns, a root canal or extraction was recommended, or the proposed plan does not match your symptoms. It can also help when you want a clearer explanation of the diagnosis, the available materials, or the order in which treatment should be completed.
Different dentists can reasonably weigh risks and treatment options differently. The purpose of a second opinion is not to automatically recommend less dentistry. It is to give you an independent assessment based on an examination, appropriate imaging, your dental history, your symptoms, and the condition of each tooth.
A Conservative, No-Pressure Evaluation
Our approach is guided by a simple question: what would Dr. Dawson recommend if this were his own tooth or a family member’s tooth? Conservative dentistry means treating disease and structural problems when needed while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as reasonably possible.
Depending on your situation, an evaluation may include reviewing current X-rays, examining existing fillings and crowns, checking cracks and tooth wear, testing a tooth’s response, evaluating the gums and supporting bone, and looking for signs of clenching or grinding. We will explain what appears urgent, what is important but not immediate, and what can reasonably be watched.
What to Bring
- Your written treatment plan, including tooth numbers and proposed procedures
- Recent X-rays and any useful older X-rays
- Clinical photographs or digital scans, if available
- A list of symptoms and what triggers them
- Your medication list and relevant medical history
Existing records may reduce unnecessary duplication, although additional imaging may still be recommended if the available images are outdated or do not clearly show the area being evaluated.
